Junebug

FULL DISCLOSURE: I went on one of the busiest nights of the year - White Linen night. After sweating among the art galleries on Julia Street, friends and I ducked into Junebug to try to get air conditioning and an adult beverage. I was already feeling overstimulated from the crowds outside and unfortunately the inside did not help. It was very crowded and by some miracle we found an open table in the bar area. The lighting is dim which was helpful because at least I wasn’t having to process lots of human voices and bright lights at the same time. We ordered appetizers and cocktails which came out pretty quickly. The food was decent - some appetizers better than others. Honestly, I wanted the food to be better than it was based on its description. I’d like to give this place a lot of grace because I’m sure they were slammed and this was not the best representation of their food. I’d been to Junebug about a year before and enjoyed the experience much more when we sat in the dining area and it was not as crowded. But on this night - the noise was too much for me and I didn’t catch that I was shutting down until it was too late. Maybe it was the echo off of the ceilings in the bar, maybe I was already too far gone when I walked in, I don’t know what it was. But my friends noticed I stopped talking and started staring blankly into space. I managed to explain that the noise was too much and they graciously told me to leave and I could Venmo my part of the bill later. I practically ran out of the door in the bar area to order a rideshare. I’ll probably end up there again at some point but hopefully not on a busy weekend. I recommend Junebug on a weeknight if you are in the area because the environment is cute and the cocktails are fun.
